Since the public meeting in February attended by 120 villagers who unanimously approved our continuing attempts to purchase the Red Lion, we have continued negotiations directly with the board at Fullers.
For now the price demanded by the brewery still remains unacceptably high. There has been some small movement from Fullers closer to market value but nowhere near the price we could offer. We will continue to press for sensible and reasonable terms.
Matters deteriorated in March when it was suggested by Fullers that there was a third party offer at a figure greatly in excess of true market value. We do however believe that the prospect of re-development is now overcome. For example, there has been no planning applicatioun.
We had hoped to report this month that a deal with Fullers was on the table. If a third party has offered Fullers an over value we will discuss joint venture to avoid the possibility that the gardens and buildings are utilised in some manner unacceptable to the village.
We are still in need of additional funding and pledges so that if our negotiations were successful we wouldn't need to rely on bank loans for part of the purchase price and the refurbishment. Please do lend your support by completing a pledge form which is available for download on the lefthand side of the page.
There have been rumours that the Red Lion has already been sold. These are not correct.
