Since the public meeting attended by 120 villagers who unanimously approved our continuing attempts to purchase the Red Lion, we have continued negotiations directly with the board at Fullers.
For now the price demanded by the brewery remains unacceptable. However, there has been movement from Fullers closer to market value. We will continue to press for sensible and reasonable terms which, after sixteen months of negotiation and argument are just beginning to surface.
Matters deteriorated in the last few days when it was suggested by Fullers that there was a third party offer at a figure greatly in excess of true market value - but our talks are continuing. The reality is that the prospect of re-development is now overcome. For example, there has been no planning application.
We hoped to report this month that a deal with Fullers was on the table. What we can say is that the contest is nearing an end game. If a third party offers Fullers an over value we will discuss joint venture to avoid the possibility that the gardens and buildings are utilised in some manner unacceptable to the village. But the signs are there that Fullers is becoming disgruntled with finance of the filthy, empty buildings and with the continuing and widely publicised criticism.
In order to succeed in this venture we are in need of additional funding so please do lend your support by completing a further pledge form which is available for download on the lefthand side of the page.
